Does Character Matter?
. . . Does the personal __1__ of a public official,
especially our nation's __2__ official, really make a difference? This
question has generated a lot of controversy lately.
. . . On the one
hand, there are those who say it __3__ matter, that it's none of the
public's business. They say that what matters is how effective the
president is in doing his __4__. If he's doing a good job of running
the country and dealing with the rest of the world, that's all we need
to __5__, they assert.
. . . Those on

__8__ that the president is a role model, someone who sets an example.
They also claim that none of us can __9__ him, if he isn't honest and
trustworthy with his own family and close friends. Also, job

time dealing with the consequences of his misbehavior, it distracts him
from his official duties.
